inspired by Islamic geometry, i read a paper on parametrized representations of Islamic geometric art. after reading the paper, i decided to design my own fundamental and cell unit to create a tiled design. i was interested in exploring how a modular approach to geometric design could create a piece of art that is flexible in use and interaction.
i then embroidered the design onto faux suede to create individual tiles, which i then cut out and attached magnetic lobster clamps so that each piece could connect to each other to form a design. once connected, i assembled in a variety of ways to build a table cover, chain mail, and a wall/shelf hanging.
imagining how this modular design can be used to create geometric chain mail.

the magnets are a bit finicky, could be solved by taking out the disconnected magnets but i am lazy!
